ABOUT OUR TEAM
Joe is a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls and a graduate of the University of South Dakota with a degree in Business. Joe entered the insurance business in 1987 following college. He spent a few years with Mutual of Omaha then started an agency with Farmers Insurance Group, which he ran for 10 years. Realizing, that as an agent with one company, he didn’t have the option to tailor coverage plans to fit the needs of individual clients, he started Pillar Insurance in 1991.
“As an independent agency, we represent over a dozen companies so we can shop for the best rates and coverage. That is something I didn’t feel I could do as an agent with one company. Our whole goal, at Pillar Insurance, is to search all of our resources to find the best rates, coverage and service options available.” Joe’s interests include golf, hunting, fishing and family.
Don was born and raised in Mitchell, SD. Graduated from high school in 1976. He went on to work in the construction industry as a self employed carpenter after trade school until entering the insurance business in 1987. He worked as an independent life and health insurance agent from 1987 until 2005, when he joined Pillar Insurance. Spending most of his time now, working in the commercial insurance marketplace as well as life and health products, he is able to help his clients in all insurance areas. has lived in Sioux Falls since 1977. He has been married to his wife, Diane for 34 years and have two married daughters and five grandchildren. Don’s hobbies include golf, fishing, and camping.
Katy was born and raised in Sioux Falls. She attended Dakota State University in Madison, SD as a student athlete and received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Upon completion of college she went on to be a Specialty Shop Manager at Scheels in Sioux Falls. After a few years at Scheels, Katy decided to resign from her position and join forces with her father and agency owner, Joe Pillar. Katy joined the Pillar Insurance team in 2017. Katy’s background in athletics has proven her hard working. Her hard work and dedication in school and athletics is reciprocated into her day to day work. Fortunate to be a part of an independent agency, Katy is always hard at work to find her clients the best rates and coverages on their home and auto insurance.
